Winter Programme: November to February 2012

Into our 70th anniversary year (1942-2012).

Highlights:

Our rambling club moves into a special anniversary year. Founded in 1942, it was set up as part of the holidays at home concept to provide leisure opportunities for a war-time population affected by travel restrictions. Some of the clubs earliest members were service men and women stationed in the area. Seventy years on and the club thrives. The tweed jackets, skirts and pipesmoke may have been replaced by modern waterproofs, fleeces, and high tech footwear - but the enjoyment of walking remains the same to the current membership in the 21st century.

Meanwhile, our Winter programme continues. December and January has some very scenic walks in mid-Gloucestershire villages. There was also the ever-popular steam train walk in Winchcombe, just after Christmas. February sees some walks mixing woodland and the high Cotswolds. The longer distance walks are also represented with walks involving The Herefordshire Trail and the River Severn. All-in-all a variety of walks for different tastes and abilities.

Don't forget our popular monthly socials in Cheltenham - they are an ideal opportunity for new members to get to know the club.
